I have to agree with Abilotta don't compete with your kid. My dad was an overly competitive jerk and killed the fun in every sport.
Try some of what Abilotta suggests. Get them involved with you and make it something special that you do together.
I used to hike the back country of Santa Barbara with my daughter and those are some of my fondest memories of being with her. Be proud of them when you're together, the world is tough enough.

fun incentive. i do wish I was more fit as a teen. I had a bunch of body builders around me but no interest in the gym because they just made it not fun. I can't wait to look back at pictures now and go "damn I looked good!"

Hate to say it but they gotta wanna do it on their own. We can entice them but they still need to go and do the work. For me to get my son involved, I showed him videos of me lifting, telling him about my PR’s… no kid wants to hear their parent outdoing them!!! He goes to a different gym. Doesn’t wanna be at planet fitness. Silly kid
